Using IP interface device

In my previous blog post I have covered some basic information about the KNXnet/IP interface device. I have explained that there are two different communication interfaces that can be used:  KNXnet/IP Tunnelling interface and KNXnet/IP Routing interface. I have also covered types of messages used for each of the two interfaces.

My book notes – How to Win Friends and Influence People

excellentBook notes represent personal notes on the books that I have read and which I consider are worth mentioning.

The main purpose is to have a reminder of the topics which are covered in the book. Let’s face it, after reading a book, I remember only the things that spark my attention the most. Everything else gets lost over time. Creating notes is a way to :

  • organize my thoughts,
  • have more things that stick permanently in my mind,
  • have a place where I can reconnect with the things that I have read.

KNXnet/IP interface device

In my previous blog post I have written about USB interface devices. What they are, what are they used for and how to use the USB interface device to establish connection with the KNX network. In this blog post I will cover basics of the KNXnet/IP interface device (or IP interface device).

Like explained in my previous post, there are three types of KNX devices:

  • Sensors
  • Actuators
  • Communication devices

KNX USB interface not working

My first contact with the KNX world was through the training course I attended. The company I’m working for got a new client and the client was into building KNX based software.

Since I had no idea what is KNX, I did the only thing I knew. I started reading documents from the KNX organization. Soon there was a KNX training course organized in a city nearby and I enrolled.

KNX training was pretty cool, I learned some basic stuff there. Among other things, I learned that there is a KNX device called USB interface device.  Main purpose of the USB interface device is to enable any computer to communicate with the KNX network.
